"Eyes Open Wide"

This morning I looked in the mirror

I saw some things I didn’t like

The wrinkles and gray hair

Told the story of a lifelong fight.

So I just stood there

Reading the story of my life

There were chapters, forgotten

But all of a sudden they came to light.

The good times, and the bad times

A jigsaw puzzle in my mind

And as I stood there, it made me wonder

Do I have the strength for the final climb.

At that moment, I felt it

                   A feeling I had as a child

                   Chasing fireflies,

Running through a field half wild.

                   It gave me comfort

                   Showed me direction

                   Led me to the doorway

                   Another window of my life

                   I guess the key is

Living with your eyes open wide.

When darkness surrounds you

With its troubled times

Don’t let it bog you down

Tomorrow brings a new sunshine

Just keep fighting

Living with your eyes open wide.

Living with your eyes open wide

                     Wading in the rising tide

Don’t hold the bad things inside

Keep living with your eyes open wide

                     Don’t miss the good things

Live with your eyes open wide.

A message of hope. A look at the innocence we should keep, but sometimes lose. Stay strong and enjoy what you can my friends. :)

LOL! No,yeah, on any other site it'd be fine, cause it's sucks on Newsvine. j/k. :)

Post it on facebook? Well, I suppose you could. I, personally, don't know how to do it through the Vine, though. Unless they have that option through the RRS/RSS feed. I'm not sure.

Beautiful poem. I only hope that you can view yourself with "kinder" eyes. The eyes I suspect you view other people with. The heart is what defines the person and his/her true beauty. If your heart is kind, gentle and beautiful, so are your lines of life as they take on a soft glow because The beauty of a person starts from within and radiates outward.

Thanks for your kind comments D/C. You are truly a kind and caring person. Wish we had more like you in this world. I cannot explain it, but I just “feel” this poem is closer to home than you may even want to realize.

Love the imagery I get here. Gotta stay within touch of those wind and water currents. Thanks for bringing us your messages, DC.
